TV Advertisement Evaluation

Section 1
Our task for this assignment was to re-brand a Unilever product. Our product that we chose to re-brand was Lynx. It was aimed at 13-18 year old aspirers who are looking for friends/partners.
Before I was placed in my group I originally chose. So choosing this as our product made it very easy to chose and made it very easy to work with.
We aimed to target this towards 18-25 year old aspirers who are looking for a better life and being comfortable with there life. We used Tom Ford private blend as our inspiration for our unisex Lynx fragrance. We thought it was a very good and different idea which is why we created our own.

Section 2
To get feedback for our advert of our target audience we created a survey on Surveymonkey. We also did screen showing to all the peers within our class. We played the advert on the projector and the class sat round the tables, we all watched the advert and they gave us feedback on which we could of improved on and what they enjoyed about the advert. We collected a list of what people said we could of improved on and one of the major things they pointed out was that there was no soundtrack or voice-over. This is due to the lack of team work and co-operation within the group and we didn't manage to get it done. Another thing was that you couldn't quite see the Lynx bottle drop in one of the scenes. This was due to the continuity error we made so we had to work with what we had and make it look as good as possible. One thing that a peers thought we did well was the range of shots and how smooth our camera movements were. This was thanks to all of our group as at one point we all filmed at least a couple of scenes. They also liked the colour scheme of our bottle. We asked around and what people thought looked most classy was black and silver or black and gold. So in the end we chose black and silver; our peers really liked the look of this. One last thing they liked was the duration of our advert. they thought it was long enough but not so long that it dragged and got boring.

I think we got the message of our advert across very well and people understood what the product was. I think it would have a very good impact on them. We tried to stick11 to the pre-production work as much as we could so that the message would be as clear as possible. If the viewer was feeling lonely it would push them to purchase the product and go looking for a partner confidently. So I do think the impact to the viewer will be very positive.

I think my advert is aesthetically pleasing to the eye because of the flow of our shots with the characters. This all in all made our advert look very professional. Another thing that was pleasing to the ye was the bottle. The colour scheme was very nice and people were saying how much they liked it. I think the costume was a good choice and showed what sort of age group we are aiming for very well. I also think the facial expressions are very good on the advert, it shows that they are happy at the end very clearly.
I think our advert effectively sells the product. But at the same time we'd need to have more mature actors to make it perfect; as the target age was 18-25 years old. I think what sells the age group also is the fact they're attracted to each other and you don't really find that with the younger ages. It sells it to the target audience by giving the impression you will find love if you were to wear the fragrance. The fact it's unisex also means that anyone could get lucky. This works because people in the age group of 18-25 nine times out of ten are looking to find a partner and maybe even settle down.
I think the message that came across with this advert is like most the lynx products. This message is that you are sure to find love if you were to purchase this product. It sends this message but with the twist of more class than the other lynx products due to the fact it is a fragrance and not just deodorant spray. The way we showed that you are sure to find love is that they start off just getting ready for a night out somewhere, then the next thing you know they bump into each other and instantly fall for each other due to the fragrance.
Finally I think that the advert in itself looks very professional and edited together very well, no thanks to our partner Alex Thorpe. The only major yet obvious mistake is the sound. Which we are meaning to fix very soon. And we made sure 100% that it met the regulations of showing times. We went over BCAP and made sure that everything was within their regulations.

Personal Reflection
The advert idea was my original idea with the unisex fragrance (inspired by my Tom Ford unisex  fragrance). Because of this I had a confident idea in the advert so I made sure i stuck to the storyboards and made it as neat as possible. We even did a quick survey on what colour the bottle would preferably be and in the end ended up being black and silver. Everyone in the class enjoyed the length of the advert due to the fact of it not dragging on but not being so short you don't really understand the product. They thought we could of worked on the continuity in some places for example when we dropped the bottle on the floor. This could of been improved by switching up the shots and making sure it was more clear when and where the bottle fell from. My tutor had the same opinion of what the class did with it with good however it could definitely be improved.
Self Evaluation
In the end I personally thought the advert went quite well. I am pleased with it; however, like anything there is always room for improvement.
